Tone Drew started his music journey in Michigan recording local bands on the earliest versions of home digital recording equipment in the 1990s. After recording & playing with bands around the midwest for a few years Tone eventually moved to Okinawa, Japan.
Here he was involved in several underground metal projects. As the front man for the band Solace Hero, as the bass player for Asura, & as a producer for many recorded projects.Although Tone has always enjoyed playing in bands & performing live, he found that the studio is where his real passion was able to shine. Drawing influence from electronic artists such as NIN, The Prodigy & Infected Mushroom,
Tone eventually started producing & DJing under the name Shamanic Ape. His focus for this project was to incorporate more visual aspects into live shows such as programmed lights & projection mapped video content sync’d with music. Delving deeper into electronic music led Tone to join BODYSONIC as the DJ playing an Ableton Push for his instrument in a live band. The visual aspects of entertainment have always been important to Tone, so he started a video production company, VEFF, in order to start developing content for his YouTube channel NEOKOZA.com.
The mission of this channel was to provide exposure to local musicians and artists in Japan’s underground music scene by producing high quality live performance videos of their live shows. This project is how Tone eventually met and started working with Funtime Productions. Tone continues to produce electronic music & is currently the guitar player for HighTechLowLife a cyberpunk band based out of Okinawa, Japan.
